Point-of-Care Testing: From Research to the Clinical Setting

The process of taking a product from research and development through to market will be explored during this session, as well as the legal and regulatory issues that must be navigated during the process. Presenters will discuss the challenges point-of-care coordinators (POCC) and staff face when implementing new products, along with how to work more effectively with vendor partners.


Kathleen David, MT (ASCP)
Manager, Point-of-Care Testing, TriCore Reference Labs

Kathleen David manages a team of four supervisors and 20 point-of-care testing techs at TriCore Reference Labs in New Mexico, which encompasses 15 hospitals and 60+ clinics, urgent care, and emergency department/urgent care hybrid sites.

Nikolaj Madsen
R&D Senior Director, Radiometer

Nikolaj Madsen oversees new technology and product development at Radiometer, as well as maintenance of ABL instruments, sensors, and samplers.

Marianela Perez-Torres, PhD
Chemistry Devices Branch Chief, Division of Chemistry and Toxicology Devices, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

In FDA's Division of Chemistry and Toxicology Devices, Marianela Perez-Torres serves as the technical authority and principal advisor to the Division Director on scientific review of clinical chemistry in vitro diagnostic devices with regard to safety and effectiveness.
